Collection: DaQi
DaQi (大漆), or "great lacquer," is a process wherein lacquer of several pigments is coated on an item over several coats. Often, between coats, crushed abalone shells, egg shells, and other natural materials are placed between layers to encourage unique and beautiful effects within the finish. A single layer may need up to a week to cure while a finished DaQi piece may contain many layers, often requiring months of continued attention to complete.
DaQi is considered by many to be among the most beautiful of Chinese crafts. Read more.
