Golden amber rounds alternate with natural turquoise in a strand of sky-meets-sunlight color, descending to a rectangular pendant carved with the nine-tailed fox (九尾狐, jiu wei hu). In the Classic of Mountains and Seas the fox of Qingqiu was an auspicious beast, a sign of peace and flourishing, and a witness to love and marriage. Later novels cast her as the seductress Daji.
